What can I do to prepare for the ELA tests?
Here is the exam review - in case you feel the need to review some of the literature terminology we have used this year!
- Relax - you are prepared!!!!
- Take your time, read carefully, and eliminate answers.
- WRITE! To the very best of your ability! Remember the writing score is MORE THAN HALF of the total score. You are GREAT writers - show them what you know!!!!! This is not the time to downplay your abilities! You should be writing AT LEAST 3 paragraphs!
- ELA part 1 will either be LITERARY ANALYSIS (Make sure you include EVERYTHING that I grade for on every constructed response that you have - APE!!!! Answer all parts of the question - include a claim, Provide textual evidence - including quotes, and Explain it! Organize this into paragraphs!) or a RESEARCH TASK (follow the prompt, organize information into paragraphs, have a clear claim.... and again APE! ~ Answer all parts of the question, Provide textual evidence and EXPLAIN it.)
- ELA Part 2 - if Part 1 was a literary analysis, you will get the RESEARCH TASK here (see notes from above). If part 1 was research, you will be doing a NARRATIVE (follow the prompt, remember the modes of storytelling that we did in our narrative writing unit - describe: show don't tell: include dialogue MIXED with small actions - but not so much dialogue that it looks like a script for a play: internal monologue - let the reader know a character's thoughts: think about when to start a new paragraph in a narrative, and have fun with it).
